It was a hot and humid summer morning but luckily the race was held inside the vicinity of an air-conditioned mall. My spouse and I all packed into our car and set off for the race. As we arrived at the first floor parking lot after 2 hours of ride it was almost empty and felt eerie. The race nervousness started to get the better of me and I was able to feel it on my entire body. In my heart I was praying, “Please God help me through today”. As soon as we entered the mall a gust of cold air slapped my face, which made me queasy and shaky. On a distant far off we could hear the hustle and bustle of the runners and the race organizers on the ground floor. On approaching the race tent to collect our bib numbers we noticed runners standing patiently in queue to collect their numbers and also few runners warming up near the start area. After collecting ours we started to warm up and stretch the muscles, while doing so I realized how sore my muscles are and my feet were aching. ‘Runners gather at the start line” screamed the race organizer in the microphone. This meant the 8.5 km race is about to start in few minutes. The worst part is to keep count of my laps all by myself. And it’s a total of 10 laps to complete the respective distance. Any mistake in my counts I could go straight to the disqualified list. On the start line I saw the strong athletes lining up in front with a serious face. I could feel the butterflies fluttering in my stomach at this point and I was wondering how was I going to perform well with my new True Motion Aions shoes as I was used to running with carbon plated shoes for years and this sudden shift to this new shoes and lack of training with these pairs raised a lot of doubts inside my mind. My conscience suddenly started to trick my mind raising questions like “what if I can’t keep up with the front pack during the race?”
The last 10 seconds count by the race organizer snapped me out of my negative thoughts and I tried my level best to shake of such feelings and be in ready position. Then, the gun went off for the mass start, I darted towards the front line mat and into the run course to catch up with the fast female group. I could see the white tiles on the ground shimmering and made few fellow runners to slip off. However, to my surprise I had the perfect grip that I needed, on the mall surface all thanks to the True Motion Shoes so I didn’t have any need to fret about my grip on the ground at all. For the first 2 kilometers I was hanging on with the female front pack but eventually my legs felt a bit heavy and it started to tire me out making it hard for me to maintain the pace. This was mainly due to the less cushioning on the mid-foot, as a mid foot striker I was at a disadvantage hence I was able to feel the impounding with every stride. However due to the U-tech technology the cushioning on the heel is commendable. The lead females group started to fade off at a distance. As I made my way up to the sharp turn the pain was building up on my legs but I was not ready to give up my overall female 3rd place. I kept going stride after stride gritting my teeth when the overwhelming pain shot through my legs. The runners beside me were breathing heavily and a lot of noisy footsteps behind me. At this point I told myself “Lydia did you come this far to lose?” No matter how much of agony I was going through during my last few kilometers I kept going regardless. I looked up in front and realized that I’ve got just 1 more lap to complete, which is the last 850 meters. I sped up little more to see how my body is reacting even though the speed pick up wasn’t much I insisted to keep my strides longer and passed through few more runners before I crossed the glorious finish line, Finishing 3rd overall female category. A sudden rush of happiness and glee filled my mind and I hugged my spouse who was eagerly waiting for me at the finish line after finishing his race just few minutes before me, drenched with perspiration.
If you’re wondering what’s the best shoe to wear on the day of your race? I would personally sideline with True Motion Aion 3. Ever since I started racing in 2016, just a year after my marriage, I was new to running and clueless about the right shoes. I’ve tried numerous shoes in various running events, each with its pros and cons. Some even caused injuries during races and tough training sessions. The best way to figure out the advantages and disadvantages of a shoe is through personal experience. If you’re a complete newbie to running, you should always look for shoes with proper cushioning to absorb ground impact, provide comfort while running, and minimize injury risk. The best part of the Aion 3 is its full length U-Tech technology with a high abrasive rubber outsole. That’s the amount of cushioning any runner, whether amateur or professional, would require.. Racing with the Aion 3 made a huge difference due to it’s bouncy feeling and extra cushioning on the mid-foot. My legs did not experience as much fatigue as they did with the previous version of Aion shoes. These pairs are also great on slick surfaces and providing excellent grip when landing on the ground. Its unique design is stylish, versatile and eco-friendly. The Aion 3 molds to your feet perfectly, making you not want to take the shoes off even after the race.
Running indoor races can be very intimidating for most runners because there is a high risk of getting hurt by slipping or while navigating sharp bents and U-turns. Getting myself into these pairs of shoes was the best decision I made on race day. Thanks to their stability, I got the perfect balance I needed when facing sharp bends and U-turns. They took most of the strains off my hips and torso. I can’t promise that owning a pair will guarantee a podium finish, but consistent training and hard work are essential to compete and win. To me, shoes are crucial elements in the world of running, responsible for providing comfort and injury prevention. The Aion 3 is sure to deliver on both fronts. Ultimately, the most significant thing for race day is to do what you trained during your training sessions. When you are comfortable with the shoes you would run a much better race overall.
